PHERADI MAIUS

The site lies on a
small terrace backed against the Jebel Chabet ben Hassen, at the bottom of a valley crossed by a wadi. Situated
between Bou Ficha and Enfida, with the mountains behind it, it dominates the coastal plain and the Sebkha as well as the Gulf of Hammamet.
Certain monuments that are exceptionally well preserved or superbly placed give the site a look of grandeur.
At the entrance to the valley stands an arch, its architecture sober and elegant; it dominates a large paved
piazza lined on one side with an arcaded nymphaeum
dedicated to Neptune, beyond which lies the forum
square. On top of the Sidi Mahfoud hill stands the
podium of a temple. Extremely high, it affords a vast
panorama of the entire region. Other monuments that
can be discerned by their shape or structure are identifiable, but have not as yet been excavated.
